But now Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) is investigating the match fixing scandal involving the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL), Adamawa Police Command has continued to kept mum over the non-appearance of its team before the investigation/disciplinary committee.
NFF executive committee member, Alhaji Ahmed Kawu and chairman of the Nationwide league, however, has vowed that all the perpetrators of the heinous crime will be given life ban if eventually guilty.
According to him, “the Federation is doing everything humanly possible to get to the root of the problem, and all the offenderswould get life ban from participating in all organised football matches in the country. All the match officials involved are already sanctioned.’’
It would be recalled that the nation’s amateur league set a new national records recentlywhen Plateau United feeder team and Adamawa outfit, Police Machine defeated their opponents with outrageous score lines.
The Plateau United FC’s Feederteam scored a whopping 79 un-replied goals to overcome Akurba FC of Nasarawa.
Also, the Police Machine FC, Adamawa, “crushed’’ Babayaro FC of Gombe 67-0 inthe play-off to get promotionto the Nigeria Nation Wide League.
Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine FC were tied on four points each with the same goal difference.
Efforts to speak with the Adamawa Police Commissioner, Mr. Geofrey Okeke, proved abortive as all calls to his line were not going through. The command’s public relations officer, DSP Mohammad Ibrahim, could not be reachedeither.
But sources close to the state command said that the matter is being investigated.
