Arsenal can provide further evidence of their title credentials on Sunday against defending champions determined to stay in touch at the top of the table.
Manchester United strolled to the title last term and the Gunners have carved out a five-point lead at the summit after 10 games of the new campaign, but questions have been asked of both sides this season and whether they are genuine contenders.
The rivalry between the teams has been intense over the past few years and Arsene Wenger's battles with Sir Alex Ferguson have produced some of the Premier League's most memorable moments, but the Frenchman will now have the chance to pit his wits against a new United boss for the first time in his 17-year reign after David Moyes took charge at Old Trafford.

Regardless of the opposition manager, Wenger can rarely have made the trip to Manchester in more confident mood after a stunning start to the season from Arsenal.
They are currently in the midst of a tough run of fixtures which some thought would expose familiar frailties, but Arsenal have continued to catch the eye and have had a particularly good week with a victory over Liverpool in the Premier League and an away win against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
Aaron Ramsey scored in both games to maintain his sensational form but Wenger has continued to play down the hype surrounding his side's title hopes.
He has admitted that he will have a much better idea after this weekend of where Arsenal stand, and would love to open up an 11-point advantage over the Red Devils.
Wenger targeting win
United have insisted it is far too early to worry about such a deficit, but they will be desperate to trim the gap to five points and striker Wayne Rooney says success against the Gunners would be the perfect springboard to get back to the top.
Rooney will be looking to pick up where he left off against Fulham last weekend, when former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie also scored in a 3-1 win away to Fulham.
The Dutchman missed a penalty in the midweek UEFA Champions League draw with Real Sociedad, which ended a run of four straight wins in all competitions.
